Epirus is famous for its pies. Our exquisite pies are filled with pastry sheets or with kourkouti, either sweet or salty, for festivities or everyday occasions, with each one of them being unique and carrying all kinds of fillings for every taste and occasion. Lachanopita the Queen of all (greens and herb pie with gidotyri), Batsaria or Blatsara (Vegetables and Herb pie with butter and gidotyri), the Kasiopita,, the sweet and snowy milk pie, chicken pie orthe shepherd’s meat pie, the Pumpkin Pie, either salty or sweet, are just some of the dozens of variations that exist scattered in Epirus.

CABBAGE ROLLS OR GIAPRAKIA

Cabbage rolls or "giaprakia" is the ultimate Christmas mezes in Ioannina. Their name comes from the Turkish word Yaprak which means leaf. Yiapraki has many influences from the Balkan countries. They vary in terms of spices or the use of different ingredients such as Pickle etc. One thing is for sure... if you come over at Christmas time it will be one of the dishes of the day.

Trahanas is a local and traditional pasta, which is made from milk and flour. There are two kinds of thrahanas: the sweet trahanhas and the sour one depending on the tastes and the habits of the area. Enjoy our Trahanoto with the best view. Hilopites are Greek noodles that can be amazingly combined with rooster braised in wine. It is one of the most well-known dishes of the Day at Frontzu Politia Restaurant.
